There's a trade-off between update frequency and battery life — you can have frequent updates or long battery life, but not both at once. Reporting every minute will give you near-live visibility, but battery life drops to weeks rather than months. For multi-month battery life, the tracker needs to report less often and spend most of its time asleep.

Default Configuration

To prolong battery life while maintaining real time updates rechargeable trackers sleep when stationary and send data only when they detect motion. Tracking a boat or trailer in occasional use can result in a single charge lasting several months but for a vehicle operating serveral hours a day, a battery that lasts a few weeks is very good.

Update frequency while moving is configurable from a few seconds up to several minutes can make a significant difference. However for best results motion detection should be disabled completely and the device should have a fixed update interval.
