Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly asked questions about our platform and GPS tracking.

Can I set up alerts?

Yes. TrackrTek supports a range of alerts including geofence entry/exit, speed threshold, start/stop moving, and device tamper or disconnection alerts. Notifications can be configured per device from your dashboard.

Can I share tracking access with someone else?

Yes. You can create user/driver accounts under your account and control what they can see and do. Fleet managers can grant read-only access to team members without giving them full account control.

What browsers/devices does the platform support?

TrackrTek works in any modern web browser on desktop or mobile — including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. No app download is required.

What happens if a tracker loses cell coverage?

No data is lost. If a tracker moves into an area without cell coverage, it stores its position history locally and automatically sends the buffered data once connectivity is restored, so you still get a complete picture of where it's been.

What do I need to start tracking?

Simply purchase a TrackrTek device to begin tracking. Every device includes access to our New Zealand built online tracking platform, no extra apps or hardware are required.

How much does tracking cost?

Tracking for each device is just $10/month when billed annually, or $15/month billed monthly.

Is there a contract or lock-in period?

No. There are no contracts and no lock-in periods — you can cancel your subscription for any of your devices at any time.

What features does the platform include?

Our platform includes real-time tracking, historical reports, route replays including trips and stops, geofencing boundaries, alert notifications, and more. Check out the tracking platform page for more info.

Will it work anywhere in New Zealand?

Our devices utilise all three NZ mobile networks for excellent coverage – real time updates will work wherever there is 4G reception across New Zealand. If connection is lost our devices continue to record GPS data, which is uploaded to the platform as soon as reception becomes available again. Because of this only real-time updates are affected by a loss of signal and historical data/reports will function as normal.

Can I try the tracking platform before I buy?

Yes — you can preview the tracking platform any time using our online tracking demo.

How often does a tracker report its position?

It depends on the configuration, typically every 10–60 seconds while moving, and less often while stationary to save battery power. If preferred, rechargeable devices can be configured to send updates at a fixed interval.

How long is my tracking data and history kept?

Position history and replays are kept on the dashboard for 3 months. If you want to keep any data permanently you can export it from the portal.

Can I share access with my team or employees?

Yes. You can create additional users from your account and choose which trackers each of them can see.

Does GPS work indoors?

GPS signals do not work reliably indoors. GPS positions are accurate to within a few metres when a device is outside but when indoors accuracy is reduced.

I sold or changed vehicles, how do I move the tracker?

For OBD2 devices, remove the tracker from your vehicle and plug it into the new one. It stays linked to your account so no further change is necessary.

Is there a cancelation fee when I cancel my subscription?

No, you can cancel at anytime and continue tracking until the billing period ends.

Why do I need a subscription for GPS tracking?

Real-time GPS tracking uses cellular data to reports its location back to the platform. The subscription covers that data, app access, and the cloud storage behind your live updates and history.

Is there a free trial period for subscriptions?

Every TrackrTek device comes with 3 months of tracking included at no cost so you can see the platform in action before starting a subscription.

Who can see my tracking data?

Only you, unless you choose to share it. You can grant access to others via a share tracking link or by creating user/driver accounts that you manage and control.

Is my data stored in New Zealand?

TrackrTek's servers are based in Sydney, Australia. Australia maintains strong data privacy legislation and is considered a comparable jurisdiction under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020, so your data remains protected to a high standard.
